King Helic

Only a hundred years ago this planet's greenery grew thickly, flowers bloomed wildly, love ruled all, and strong hatred was subdued with this splendid love. This planet that should love was filled with the stench of gunpowder and blood...

Not to be confused with his son, Helic II, aka President Helic.

History

King Helic was head of the Wind Tribe way back when, and ended up leading it and a number of others in battles with Guylos, the aggressive head of the Earth Tribe (and its associates).

Disgusted with the continual battles and all the death and destruction that came with them, he buggered off in ZAC 1955 (riding a wild Shoteagle) to seek a solution...and found one in the form of Nyx's natives, eager to invade and conquer the Central Continent once they knew how awesome it was. Which he made a point of telling them, along with how everyone there was currently arguing amongst themselves and vulnerable. In other words, he led dangerous Zoids and pilots onto his own people to give them a common enemy, then used it as the catalyst for an alliance with Guylos (who did a lot of the work in rallying the army). Between them working together and the Nyx lot finding the Central Continent's hot summers unbearable (something Helic intentionally didn't warn them about, having devised his scheme once he knew their weakness), they drove them back. Peace fell over the continent on the summer solstice of ZAC 2056.

Helic, now named a king by his people, went on to found what aimed to be a democratic, peaceful Republic (but had a whole lot of familial power going on some places). He had two sons he intended to pass on main power to—the first, Helic II, was with a woman from the Janice house of the Wind Tribe, who were expert politicians. The second, Zenebas, was with Guylos' younger sister and thus a military family. He aimed to keep the ruling family strong in both respects, and tried to educate his sons so they'd balance each others' strengths and weaknesses.

King Helic died in ZAC 1978. His throne was designated vacant, 'cause monarchy has cooties, but presidents that rule for 70+ years are fine. Speaking of which, Helic II took over as the Republic president, and Zenebas was appointed supreme commander of the military. King Helic himself left behind a letter telling his sons to work together and revealing the truth about how he'd formed the country, something that haunted him to his grave.

Never repeat the mistakes your father committed.
Helic, you must not govern the world with politics alone.
Zenebas, you must not govern the world with military power alone.

Long story short, they didn't listen. Zenebas got squirrely, the assembly and Helic II got pissy, and the whole thing became a political mess in short order. King Helic's continent was soon divided again.
